About

Born in Trivandrum and brought up in Calicut, Kerala I have been surrounded by dance and music while growing up. I started learning Bharatanatyam at the age of 4 and I had my Arangetram (debut performance) at the age of 9. I then went on to learn Kuchipudi and Mohiniattam along with Bharatanatyam and performed across several stages in India.  I started learning Kathak and was part of the Abhinava Dance Company that toured across the country after moving to Bangalore. Then I got married and I moved to Dunedin in 2010. This move has been one of the turning points in my life. I had to unlearn and relearn whatever I knew about my life, about my art. I am constantly faced with challenges and questions that is helping me evolve.

Through this blog I will be featuring artists, scholars and arts appreciators who are on a creative path different from others. And because they are different in their practice and pedagogy they are often not part of the mainstream media and festivals. They refuse to conform to what and how an ‘artist’ should be. And that is their uniqueness. I hope to introduce them to all of you through this blog. Hope you all enjoy reading it!
